Science Park Exploration Museum was one of the first 16 standard factory buildings in the Park when it was established in 1980. This place was also the origin where big companies, such as Acer, were founded. In 2001, 15 old standard factory buildings in the area were demolished and reconstructed; only the 16th factory building remaining in the park was renovated as a historical museum. It opened in March 2007 and was officially named as the “Science Park Exploration Museum”. In March 2018, the Science Park Exploration Museum was reopened after another renovation, which integrates digital multimedia with new products display, hoping to provide visitors a new way of exhibition.

There are 3 floors in the Museum. The first floor is the Advanced Technology Pavilion for introducing innovative and green energy products. The second floor is the Industrial Pavilion for introducing the six major industries as well as the products from the manufacturers. The third floor is the Cultural Pavilion for introducing the history and development of the Science Park.

【Fuel cell scooter(ZES6.0C)】
This is a hydrogen fuel cell scooter developed by Asia Pacific Fuel Cell Technologies. Unlike rechargeable electric scooters, this scooter uses hydrogen to generate power. When you open the seat cushion of the scooter, you can see two hydrogen tanks installed inside as the power source. Now, let's take a look at the battery. The battery is equipped with a special device. When riding the scooter, this unique device will grab the oxygen from the air and combine it with the hydrogen in the hydrogen tank to generate power. The combination of hydrogen and oxygen produces water. Therefore, instead of emitting exhaust gas, this scooter discharges only water. Since the scooter has no exhaust system, it is extremely clean and environmental friendly. The scooter can run up to 50km/hr, the mileage is 86km; in other words, if you exceed 86km, you will need to change the hydrogen tank.

【Passive Solar Track】
This is a solar panel developed by CN-J Technology Company that does not require electricity. The black tanks on both sides are filled with mixed liquid substances. When the sun moves, the thermal imbalance between the two ends will cause a pressure difference, which triggers the entire solar panel to change direction. There is one identical solar panel installed at the entrance of the Hsinchu Science Park Bureau. If you look closely, you will find that the solar panel is oriented at slightly different angles every day as the sun moves.

2F Integrated Circuits Industry Area

Audio tour

【Integrated Circuits Industry Area】
Integrated circuits industry is the largest industry among the six major industries in the Park, accounting for about 70%. The Park has complete up-, middle- and down-stream industrial chain. The integrated circuit is the so-called IC. The up-stream is IC design, which converts the circuit diagram designed by engineers into photomasks. The middle-stream is IC manufacturing. In this process, polycrystalline silicon as the raw material is melted in a cylindrical container, and then crystal pulling to form an ingot, which is then sliced. After grinding and polishing, mirror-like blank wafers are formed. Finally, photomasks combining with photolithography technology is used to put circuits on the blank wafer. The down-stream is IC package & test, which performs tests to ensure that each wafer is functioning properly.

【Lyfie eye】

2F Optoelectronics Industry Area

Audio tour

【Optoelectronics Industry】
The optoelectronics industry is the second largest industry in the Hsinchu Science Park. When talking about optoelectronics, the first thing that often comes to our mind is LED, which is light-emitting diode. The raw material of LED is sapphire crystal, which is cut and ground to form a rod. The ingot is then sliced to become wafers. Have you notice that the manufacturing process of LED is very similar to that of IC? The 4-inch wafer in front of you contains many small white dots. Each dot represents one LED. Finally, after the packaging process, it becomes the lighting device that we see in our everyday life.
Besides making lighting devices, LEDs are also used in displays. The displays we see on the market can be divided into two major categories; LCD (liquid crystal) and OLED (organic light-emitting diode). A big difference between LCD and OLED is that LCD itself does not emit light. It requires a backlight underneath the LCD to emit light in order to generate the image that we see. As a result, image generated is often bright and glaring. OLED, on the other hand, is made of organic light emitting materials which makes OLED to emit light by itself. The emitted light is soft and slightly yellowish. Since OLED is self-light emitting, the device does not require multi-layer structure like LCD, making it lighter and thinner compared with LCD.

【LUMLIGHT OLED eyecare lamp】
This is the eye-caring desk lamp produced by Lumlight with OLED panel. When the lamp is turned up to give the strongest light, you can still look at it directly without feeling the glaring sensation and discomfort. The OLED of the lamp can be changed; without the need to replace the entire lamp, which is friendly to the environment.

This wall introduces several important people for the establishment of the Hsinchu Science Park; Mr. Sun, Yun-Suan (Y. S. SUN) led the establishment of ITRI (Industrial Technology Research Institute), Mr. Li Kuo-Ting worked hard to promote the development of science and technology in Taiwan, Mr. Shu Shien-Siu (S. S. SHU) planned the establishment of the Hsinchu Science Park, and Mr. Irving T. Ho (I. T. HO) served as the first director of the Hsinchu Science Park and laid the foundation for the Park.

Looking back at the major events, the Hsinchu Science Park was officially established in 1980. In 1986, the volume of products produced from the computer peripherals industry of the Hsinchu Science Park reached the top three in the world. In 1993, the industry was transformed; the number of IC manufacturers in the Hsinchu Science Park and their total turnover has exceeded that of the computer peripherals industry for the first time, which was an important milestone for the transformation of the Hsinchu Science Park.

In addition, the Hsinchu Science Park also triggered the creation of other science parks across the island. In order to balance the development of the North and the South of Taiwan, the Southern Taiwan Science Park was established in 1997 and the Central Taiwan Science Park was established in 2002.

Since its establishment, the Hsinchu Science Park has continued to improve its infrastructure, integrate resources and innovate through countless efforts. Despite several global crises, it has moved steadily forward, becoming the Hsinchu Science Park today.
