The establishment of the Museum of World Religions gives visitors the opportunity to learn about different religions and to choose their own spiritual path in life; it also serves as a platform for candid interreligious dialogue, with the goal of eliminating disputes and conflicts among the religions. With this in mind, Master Hsin Tao thought that if the Wu-sheng monastery merely built a Buddhist Museum or a big temple, he would not be able to reach the far-reaching goal described above, even though this might give spiritual sustenance to local Buddhists and make them happy, and fundraising and establishing the building would be relatively easy. Compared to this, the plan to establish a modern Museum to spread knowledge about religions in a leisurely and enjoyable way would be a far better and much more needed approach. Finally, after consulting with and visiting numerous theme relevant Museums and institutions all over the world, the concept and mission of the Museum of World Religions, unprecedented in history in its emphasis on internationality and inclusion of all of the world religions, took shape after careful deliberations.
- Permanent exhibition
The permanent exhibition mainly focuses on the eight world religions: Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Taoism, Hinduism, Sikhism, and Shinto, as well as on ancient religions like the religions of ancient Egypt and the Maya. The visitors will come to see the similarities and differences of these faith traditions, and also to learn about the beliefs and history of these religions.
